How To Keep RV Cover from Ripping

RV covers are protective layers that cover surfaces, but they can easily be ripped and torn. Improper installation, unskilled handling and lack of maintenance can tear the fabric from a variety of places.  

So How Can I Prevent My RV Cover from Tearing?

You can prevent RV covers from tearing by using high quality covers that are tight on both sides, have protective straps, and have snaps to protect the fabric from tearing. Also, allow the cover to breathe to prevent mold buildup and use foam blocks to hide the location of the roof. Also, stop tears by blocking drains with tennis balls and covering pipes with foam.

Use High Quality RV Covers

It is important to make an accurate decision when choosing one of these covers.Choose it according to the size and dimensions of the vehicle. It should hide the sides and corners of the setup. In addition, it should unfold on the roof of the vehicle leaving no corners.

In this way, the environmental hazards cannot affect the cover. High quality fabric is waterproof and repels UV rays. In this way, RV covers keep water out.They resist seasonal changes and keep the trailer safe for longer periods of time. In addition, the built-in durability features of the fabric provide a protective covering for the entire surface of the RV.

You can choose the type of fabric depending on the weather conditions. They come in different styles and vary in thickness accordingly.Tight covers are best because they leave no extra space for wind penetration. In this case, the fabric will repel the formation of holes and you can prevent it from being torn.

Use Protective Straps

Protective strap is the binding material that controls the RV cover. Due to their acrylic webbing, these straps are stronger than nylon straps.They are long enough to go through the sides of the roof. The straps come in different packages with non-stretchable buckles.

They are usually black with long cords at the end and clips to hold the straps in place. You can tie them from one edge to the other and use multiple straps at the same time.

These straps protect against harmful wind effects - do not allow air to penetrate the inside of the RV hood. And despite multiple rushes, the wind pressure cannot tear the fabric.They are beneficial in extending the life of its fabric. All this avoids sudden tears in the middle or side edges of the cover.

Fasten them according to the manual instructions(Keep them fastened on the roof and sides of the RV) so the fabric doesn't have to worry about damage.

Allowing the Cover to Breathe

Often, some RV covers tear due to non-ventilation conditions.

The protective materials of rv covers are water and heat resistant. However, water accumulates on the surface in the form of water droplets.

Therefore, covers need sufficient interfacial air to avoid moisture. Use covers that create an interface without getting the harmful effects of wind pressure.

Also, remove and dry the cover after water has accumulated. Finally, dry the surface of the vehicle to remove all water.

Avoid using non-breathable tarps, as they can retain moisture and freeze over time, causing damage.

Covering RV Roof Points

The roof of an RV contains vents, air conditioning holes and other sewer holes. The fabric can break off from these holes and drainage sections. Use foam blocks that come in different colors and sizes for these spots. Alternatively, they are called foam noodles and can cover any shape of vent, screw or pipe drainage hole.

You can use zipper ties and small cords to clip the foam blocks. First, stabilize the RV cover in these places and put on the foam blocks. Then, push them inward to prevent them from moving irregularly.

After that, rain and air cannot reach these vulnerable areas. The foam blocks allow slight air breathing and keep the cover safe from being torn.

Ps:You can also add these blocking materials to pad any sharp corners or edges or protrusions that could damage the cover. 

Blocking the Open End with Tennis Balls

The open ends of an RV include the drainage section and the vents.  Dust particles, air and water can penetrate into these openings.Dust and moisture combine to cause holes in the fabric.

You can purchase tennis balls from sporting goods stores to prevent this damaging condition.

Using multiple tennis balls, make an X-shaped or circular cut in them. Then, adjust them over the open vents and secure them one by one.And increase the size of the cutout depending on the measurement of one hole.

Besides, park it in a cool place and keep the surroundings clean to prevent direct impact of air and dust particles.

Protect the Pipes

Plumbing pipes are exposed to rain and wind affects them more than other RV components. You can cover them with a high-quality cover, but they are so vulnerable to damage that you need to take extra measures.

In addition, internal leaks are more difficult to identify. Therefore, excessive moisture and internal leaks can be a major cause of damage to the pipe and tearing of the fabric

Preventing such problems requires covering the pipes with a protective material. For example, use long blocks of foam and hide the pipe.Alternatively, use duct tape for foam covering. Then, secure the elongated foam cover in one place and add multiple pieces of tape. Finally, the RV surface is used to secure and preserve the fabric.

It locks out internal leakage problems and repels the effects of external moisture on the RV cover. The choice of thickness and color of the blocks depends on the climatic conditions.

In addition, you can trim with scissors and modify according to the exposed surface of the pipe.
